Foreclosure
Scams
|
|
Don't
fall victim to foreclosure scams:
Some of the fastest growing frauds
are foreclosure rescue scams. In
these scams, thieves try to take
advantage of homeowners facing
foreclosure. Posting as a variety of
characters such as "mortgage
consultants", "foreclosure
rescuers", or as a
"foreclosure service",
these scam artists target homeowners
with offers to "save" the
defaulted homeowner's home. The scam
artist gets the homeowner's money,
but fails to provided any real
assistance.

Do's
and Don'ts
|

owns your loan
- Call your loan services/lender
- Call a housing counselor
- Organize your finances - do a budget to
determine what mortgage payment you can
afford
- Create a file to record all calls and
correspondence with mortgage services,
agencies, and counselors. Follow up calls
with letters with return receipt requested
- Educate yourself by attending
state-sponsored classes, workshops, and open
houses
Don'ts

- Don't be rushed into a deal with a
foreclosure "rescuer" with
promises to stop a foreclosure
