FELTON REST HOME OPERATOR ARRESTED ON PATIENT ABUSE CHARGE
(Dover, DE): Attorney General Jane Brady announced that Betty Fletcher, owner and operator of Rest Family Care in Felton, Delaware was arrested on Wednesday on one count of felony Patient Abuse. The victim is an elderly man who lived at Fletcher's facility in Felton. The Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU) of the Attorney General’s Office investigated the alleged neglect of the victim. The investigation revealed that the victim's medical needs had been neglected to such an extent that, among other things, he developed pressure ulcers on his hip and gangrene on his right foot, requiring amputation of the right leg.
Attorney General Brady said, “Persons who, due to age or infirmity need the assistance of others, are entitled to proper care. This office will continue to vigorously prosecute cases involving neglect or abuse of our most vulnerable citizens.”
The charge of Patient Abuse is a felony due to the serious bodily injury suffered by the victim. If convicted, Fletcher faces up to 6 years of incarceration.
