ABOUT DELAWARE'S SENIOR PROTECTION INITIATIVE


Senior Protection Initiative is run by the Delaware Attorney General's Office and consists of a three part approach: Public Education, Law Enforcement Education, and a Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) comprised of prosecutors, police, and social services representatives to promote awareness regarding elder abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation. WHAT’S HAPPENING


University of Delaware Elder Abuse & Exploitation Event
PLEASE NOTE: The Delaware Department of Justice is not the host for this event.
The University of Delaware will host a multidisciplinary conference on May 12, 2016 to help professionals, advocates, and community members better understand elder abuse and to take responsible actions. Several Delaware Department of Justice employees will be participating in plenary panels during the event.
The event will be held on University of Delaware's Laird Campus at the John M. Clayton Hall Conference Center, 100 Pencader Way, Newark, DE 19716.

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD)
The Delaware Department of Justice's Senior Protection Initiative is recognizing the 11th Annual World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June 15, 2016 with events in all three counties. Based on the theme "Fraud and Scams that Target Seniors: Learning to Protect Yourself," the events are designed to bring greater recognition on the ways in which scammers target older adults and highlight the resources available to elder abuse victims and their families. Those who plan to attend are encouraged to wear purple, the official color for elder abuse awareness.

If you suspect a senior citizen is a victim of abuse, neglect or financial exploitation, please call Delaware's Adult Protective Services at 1-800-223-9074. If you suspect a case of elder abuse in a Delaware licensed long-term care or assisted living facility, please contact the Division of Long Term Care Residents Protection at 1-877-453-0012.
