James B. Ropp, Delaware Securities Commissioner
James B. Ropp was appointed to the position of Delaware Securities Commissioner by Delaware Attorney General M. Jane Brady in July, 1999. In that capacity, he oversees the Delaware Division of Securities, which has Administrative, Civil and Criminal Jurisdiction under the Delaware Securities Act. He started with the Delaware Attorney General’s office in 1981 following a clerkship with the Delaware Supreme Court. While with the Delaware Attorney General’s office, he has served as a criminal prosecutor in the Appeals Division, Sex Crimes Unit, Drug Unit, and Felony Trial Unit. Prior to his appointment as Securities Commissioner, he headed the Attorney General’s Domestic Violence Unit. He left the Attorney General’s office for private practice in 1985 and was employed by the Wilmington Delaware firm of Morris, James, Hitchens, & Williams. He returned to the Attorney General’s office in 1989. He is a native Delawarean and received degrees from the University of Delaware and the Dickinson School of Law.
Jim has served on the Enforcement Section for the North America Securities Administrator’s Association (“NASAA”) for three years and has served as Section Chair of the Enforcement Section. In 2004, he was elected to the Board of NASAA, and he continues to serve in that capacity.
